What is the WAN IP address of my router

A router on your home network enables the one IP address allocated by your ISP to be used by multiple computers in your home.

A simplified version of the way it does this is that it shows one IP address to the outside world (your broadband connection) and another IP address to the computers on your home network.

The address it shows to your home network is called the router's IP address or LAN IP Address.
The address it shows to your broadband connection is called the router's WAN IP address.

(LAN stands for Local Area Network and WAN stands for Wide Area Network).

To look up the WAN IP address, you need to login to the router and locate the correct screen and just read it off, how to login and which screen to look at depends on your router but the procedure is fairly simple.

By the time you have reached this far with the installation of MyRingToneServer, you should be okay with logging in (if not, see our help page on port forwarding for detailed logging in instructions then come back to here for help with locating the WAN IP address.

For a Belkin router, login to the router and the WAN IP address is displayed on the home page.

For a Linksys router, login to the router and the WAN IP address is displayed as the IP address on the status page (in the router section, not the Local Network section.)
