Server mode installation

The instructions below help you install MyRingToneServer.
If you are unfamiliar with the terms mentioned this can take a little time, but it only needs to be done once.

Once installation is complete, all you need to do each time you want to download a ringtone is to run MyRingToneServer and connect to it via your phone.

Alternatively, the client mode installation offers nearly the same functionality but without the complicated configuration.

•  Select and run the most suitable download option for you.

Select a user id that you like, you can leave most of the settings at the defaults unless you want to change them, then click OK.

Your ringtone server is now running, if this is your first installation of MyRingToneServer you will need to configure your network to send traffic from your phone into your ringtone server, to do this follow the instructions below:

Test local access to the server by clicking on the "Local Address" line on the MyRingToneServer screen (example "Local Address: http://192.168.1.100:21080") - A web browser window should open for you showing what your phone will show you when it connects to your ringtone server.

Test your computer's firewall - it needs to allow MyRingToneServer traffic through: If you have another computer at your house on the network you should now try to load your ringtone server on the other computer - if not, you can skip this step and come back to it later if you need to. This is done by starting up a web browser on the other machine and typing in the section of the Local Address that starts with http (e.g. http://192.168.1.100:21080) - if this doesn't work see our firewall information pages as your phone will not be able to see your ringtone server either.

If you have a router on your network, now is the time to connect to it and setup port forwarding so that it allows MyRingToneServer requests to reach your machine. This can be a little detailed so we have created a port forwarding section.

If you have a DSL connection, you probably need to setup port forwarding on there as well, see our port forwarding for DSL help page for help with this. Ifyou are on a modem or a cable modem setup should now be complete.

Test from outside of your network using our test page. If it works you are ready to connect with your phone, if not there are useful pointers on the test page for where the problem might be.

Use your phone to connect to your ringtone server by starting the web browser on it and going to the address specified in your MyRingToneServer window's Web Address line (example: http://www.MyRingToneServer.com/users/example).

Add files to your ringtone server by saving or copying them into the folder specified in your settings (defaults to MyRingToneServerFiles in your home directory).
